I normally don’t waste my time with anything involving Britney spears unless it involves an absence of underpants, but this is the height of lunacy. On losing 12 pounds in 30 days:
“I try to do just 1,200 calories a day,” says Brit, who also happens to work out five days a week. “It may sound like it’s not much, but it’s actually a lot of food if you eat the right things.”
Right. Or it could have something to do with the endless antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, weight loss pills, and other “supplements” that suppress appetite that she’s taking to stay sane.
Actually, losing 12 pounds in 30 days while eating almost nothing and exercising 5 times a week sounds entirely plausible. 12 pounds is about 42,000 calories (3,500 calories/pound), so even if you assume she had previously been taking in 2,000 calories per day (which is way low given her appetite for fast food and frappacinos) it’s fair to say that with the exercise she was averaging a low-for-the-gulag 800 calories per day , resulting in a third of a pound lost daily. That’s 10 pounds in 30 days, and again, saying that Brit had only been taking in 2,000 calories per day would be like saying Chris Crocker is “ambivalent” towards men.
Anyway, the whole point is that while it’s probably less healthy to lose weight with the “supplements” Amy mentions, it’s not exactly an indicator of sanity to starve your body and begin a manic exercise program to drop weight. That this is reported as some sort of triumph is pretty irresponsible journalism (I know it’s OK!, but still).
